Save the Blue Heart of Europe: In cooperation with local partners, the NGOs ‘EuroNatur’ and ‘RiverWatch’’ have launched the “Save the Blue Heart of Europe” campaign aiming to save this natural European heritage from destruction. In our campaign, we concentrate on four key areas that are particularly valuable: the Vjosa River in Albania, the Mavrovo National Park in Macedonia, the Sava River in Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Serbia, as well as the rivers of Bosnia & Herzegovina. Needless to say, all of them are threatened by large dam projects. Learn more at https://www.balkanrivers.net/ and https://balkanrivers.net/en/artists .

ACT launched a global campaign in the US and Europe on September 23rd together with Global Wildlife Conservation and 23 other leading green groups in the US and Europe (International and American Rivers, the (Robert) Redford Center, IUCN, the David Brower Center, WWF, etc.) calling on the government of BiH to protect Europe’s last wild rivers. Separately, we launched a parallel campaign in BiH under tag in Bosnian #jaBiHdatecem, #BiHRunsFree.
Our campaign has been supported by Leonardo DiCaprio personally twice in the last month – live on his own Facebook (16.8M), Twitter (19.3M followers) and Instagram (46.8M). Leonardo’s posts went viral all over the Blue Heart of Europe region – hundreds of folks have been adding daily new memes, jokes about the Bosnian Federation prime minister, our activists are constantly in the media, etc. In one single week, the PM’s office in BiH issued two public statements in response to the campaign. The local campaign facebook page in Bosnian has reached 720,000 people in a month.
ACT is committed to running this campaign as long as it takes for the proposed moratorium on new construction of small dams to enter into full force of law.
